BOE (Bank of England) public data on companies

The Bank of England (BoE) publishes a range of monthly monetary and credit statistics designed to help policymakers, financial institutions, and researchers monitor economic trends, liquidity, and credit conditions in the United Kingdom 2,4 .

The primary monthly publication, the Money and Credit statistical release, provides high-level indicators of broad money (M4ex) and credit (M4Lex) 2, 8 . To support these headline figures, the BoE provides more granular, monthly, and quarterly datasets via Bankstats (Monetary and Financial Statistics) tables and its Interactive Database (IADB) 2, 6 .

This monthly data can be categorized into four core metrics of the UK banking sector’s balance sheet:

  • Deposits & Repos

    Tracks deposit liabilities held by UK resident banks and building societies from the non-MFI (Monetary Financial Institutions) sector, including collateralized deposits arising from sale and repurchase agreements (repos) 3, 9 .

  • Net Lending

    Measures the monthly net flow of credit (gross lending minus repayments, adjusted for overdrafts) to households and businesses 8, 9.

  • Loans – Overdrafts + Reverse Repos

    Represents on-balance sheet assets of banks, comprising standard term loans, revolving overdraft balances, and secured lending via reverse repurchase agreements (reverse repos) 5, 7 .

  • Credit Facilities

    Measures the committed but undrawn credit lines (unused credit facilities) available to corporate and retail borrowers, reflecting potential future credit expansion 1, 6 .
