  • Data Source & Reporting
    The data is collected monthly and quarterly using Form AL (Analysis of lending to UK residents) 2, 11.
  • Components
    • Term Loans: Fixed-term loans with a scheduled maturity (e.g., standard business term loans, mortgages) 5, 9 . These are split by original maturity (“up to 12 months” and “over 12 months”) 8, 10.
    • Overdrafts: Overdrawn balances on current accounts 7. They are highly short-term, uncollateralized revolving credit options utilized by individuals and businesses to manage temporary cash flow fluctuations 3 .
    • Reverse Repos:
      • A reverse repo is the purchase of a security with a commitment to sell it back 4, 6 .
      • When a bank conducts a reverse repo, it is essentially lending cash collateralized by the security 1 . In BoE statistics, reverse repos are reported as on-balance sheet loans and advances (assets) 10,12.
  • Exclusions
    This category strictly excludes funds placed with other UK MFIs (interbank lending) or non-residents 10.
